"No, I'm sorry. Whatever you think I am, I'm not..."

There are some characters that illicit strong responses; either people loathe them, or absolutely love them. They aren't the love-to-hate Stu Radzinkys of the world, but rather curiously crafted individuals of an "acquired taste." Well, I'm fairly certain that Dr. Juliet Burke falls into that category, and that I'm one of the avid fans.

Juliet is probably my favorite woman on Lost. Why? Oh, so many reasons. The roller-coaster ride that was season 3 certainly set the stage for a good character. We have such a hard time placing her as motives, her alliances, her goals... is she good? Bad? A friend of the Losties, an enemy? Every hint weighing the favour to one side is blindsided by a new revelation. Who the hell is this woman, who are the Others, and why do they have a goddamn book club???!

I digress.

As the season goes on, we see Juliet's past, and the meek woman she once was. Brilliant, but dominated by an ex husband (holy Heroes actor!) and a definite lack of confidence. Her motives seem valiant and true... and yet, why does she whisper in darkened rooms to Ben, about infiltrating the Lostie camp? Oh god, who is this woman?

I always had faith in Julie. I liked her sideways smirk from the start. Juliet keeps you guessing, but as Jack observed, you know that, deep down, she only wants to get off the island. For a woman people keep trying to badger and bully and keep in her line, Juliet can kick some serious ass.

As far as romances go, Juliet has gotten the short end of the stick (admittedly, Sayid's love interests just get killed off in bloody messes, and Hurley had the most drawn-out heartbreaking loss, but still. Ow.) Whenever she finds a fulfilling relationship, someone sets their eyes on destroying it. From the start, you could tell there was some serious tension between her and Ben... The Other Woman, which some dismissed as superfluous but nonetheless provided us with the best ham-related scene to ever grace television, proved our suspicions right.

When Juliet finally DID find a healthy, happy, adult relationship with Sawyer (or is that Lafluer?), freckly-face herself had to pop back into the picture. Good god, when you want to blow up a bomb to erase the memory of all your frigged up romances, you know things haven't been in your favour.

I love Jules. She's smart and sarcastic, can seem like an icy bitch but is actually sweet (mostly), and can mud-wrestle the hell outta Kate. (fanservice much?) She's not the token pretty (yet likely dull) lady injected into a show for sex appeal. Her story is strange, involved, heartbreaking and curious. There are so many Juliets, and although we may now trust her, can you ever predict what she'll do next?

Oh, and she succeeded where JackAss failed; Juliet blew up the bomb, folks. Hers is the last face we'll see for 8 months, burned onto our brains and followed by the white silence. OMG.

Poor Julie needs more respect. Remember that whole appendix thing?


JACK: OW.
JULIET: It's your appendix. I'll take it out.
JACK: NOOO ur liek a gurl, you can't operate!
JULIET: I'm a doctor, Jack. I'm going to take your appendix out.
JACK: NO WAI IMMA GONNA DO IT MYSELF.
<attempts to operate on self, cries, in knocked out by Juliet, who does the job right>
JACK: WA HAPP-NED?
JULIET: I saved your life. Now, you need to rest for a little while so you don't, you know, die.
JACK: NU-UH IMMA GONNA RUN AFTER KATE! IN THE JUNGLE!
JULIET: *facepalm*

Love her or hate her, love or hate her relationships and love quadrangles, and love or hate her crooked smirk, you gotta admit; Juliet can get the job done.

I think we'll be seeing more of her in season 6 (or, at least, I hope we do.) She'll kick some ass, save everyone's butts again, and end up in a relationship with... uh... whose left? Sayid? Hurley? Richard? Yeah, Richard. Now THAT'S a OTP
