remember that fire we started

Near Dark is a great little vampire film that you ought to watch. It's not as well remembered as its contemporary The Lost Boys, which is a real shame. It's a quieter (yet never boring) sort of movie, with wonderful pacing and genuinely creepy characters. Seriously, Bill Pullman (er, PAXTON) plays a disturbed sadist way more effectively than I would have ever guessed possible.

Some of the best moments of the film are the most 'mundane' ones; Caleb desperately trying to get a bus ticket home, stranded and ill and confused as all hell. There's an authenticity to the characters that makes the creepy parts creepier, if that makes sense. The movie isn't without its flaws, but it's still definitely worth a watch, and fun to compare and contrast with Lost Boys... essentially the same plot, but one has much more, uh, greased-up sax man (not that that's a bad thing.)
