Description

LOST season 6 ep. 9 spoilers! Be warned!

Oh my god.
Oh. My. GOD.

I don't even know where to begin.
You know how every once in a while an episode comes along, and it immediately has a different vibe to it? Not a bad vibe, but a distinctly different feeling. After a while, you begin to realize that it's because it's peeling off the surface, and letting you peer into the mysteries underneath.

Ab Aeterno is one of those episodes on steroids.

The mere fact that it's a Richard-centric episode, with 'Richard' and 'explanation' being like oil and water for the last three seasons, makes it special. But, my god, they milked it for every ounce of awesome that a single episode can allow. Holy shit.

Richard, the clean-cut man of Mittelos, of New Otherton, of the 1950s camp, who visited baby Locke and who always seemed privy to the secrets viewers longed to know, finally gets a backstory. And hell, what a backstory! Melodrama that might have felt trite elsewhere, but so well acted, written and built up that it was beautiful and ADMIT IT YOU ALL CRIED SEVERAL TIMES.

Nestor Carbonell deserves a landslide and/or avalanche of awards for his performance. The ever calm and mysterious Richard has his true colours shown; he is an everyman, with either the best luck or the worst luck in the world. A man who wants a simple and happy life with his wife, who wants a family, who works very hard and honestly. A man you can't help but root for, love, pity. He's such a far cry from the Richard we knew, and it adds so much to the character.

Anyway, it was one of my favorite episodes. Not just of the season, but ever. EVER. Beautiful and tragic and important. The relationship between the Man in Black (who my mum refers to as 'Johnny Cash ) and Jacob was laid out in all of its glory. It almost felt voyeuristic, watching the secrets of LOST start to play out on the screen.

Also, holy shit. That ghost whisperer scene with Hurley. If you didn't feel the love you are a COLD AND HEARTLESS ROBOT, YOU COLD AND HEARTLESS ROBOT.

What did you think? Were you satisfied by the long-awaited Richy epsiode? Want more, don't care, yadda yadda?

Oh beardo Ricardo, we love you.

Also, if you don't know who Batmanuel is: [link] God, I miss that show...
